With the Academy Awards ceremony tonight, we look back at our interviews with some of this year’s nominees.

First up: the beautiful Beasts of the Southern Wild which is nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress for young star Quvenzhané Wallis, who’s the youngest ever nominee in that category, Best Director for Benh Zeitlin, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Denzel Washington
is up for Best Actor for his fine performance in Flight as an alcoholic and drug-addicted pilot who miraculously crash-lands his plane after a mid-air catastrophe. (Flight is also nominated for Best Original Screenplay.)

Helen Hunt is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as sex surrogate Cheryl Cohen Greene in the superb The Sessions, the true story of journalist and poet Mark O’Brien who spent most of his life in an iron lung after contracting polio at a young age.

Joe Wright’s gorgeous adaptation of Anna Karenina is up for a number of awards including Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Music (Original Score), and Best Production Design.
