With his latest film, actor Jason Biggs moves away from American Pie and into Grassroots politics.

When jaded journalist Phil Campbell helped his idealistic friend Grant Cogswell stand in Seattle’s City Council elections in 2001, he had no idea that just over a decade later their story would be turned into a movie.

Based on Zioncheck for President, Campbell’s book about that election race, Grassroots is directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal and stars Jason Biggs as Campbell and Joel David Moore as Cogswell, his monorail-loving friend.

Check out the video to see Jason Biggs and Stephen Gyllenhaal chat about the real-life election story behind their movie and Joel David Moore’s on-set pranks:

Grassroots is in UK cinemas on 9 November.
