What Can We Expect from the New Bourne Film?
After the critical and relative commercial disappointment of the Bourne Legacy (2012), fans of the original Jason Bourne trilogy will be pleased to know that a number of things that made the movie franchise so great in the first place are back for the new film.
Producer, Frank Marshall, recently sent social media into frenzy by announcing via Twitter that “BOURNE is back!”, which he posted with a photo of a familiar face on set. Tentatively titled Bourne 5, here is what you can expect from the latest instalment:
The return of Matt Damon
The character of Jason Bourne (real name David Webb) is back in the fold for more action. Yet even more exciting than this is the news that Matt Damon will to reprise his role as the titular character. Damon previously denied that he would ever play the character again, saying in response to questions about reprising the role, “we have ridden that horse as far as we can”. Thankfully though, the actor has changed his tune.
Damon has also revealed that Bourne’s memory has returned. He also says that the film will answer a number of as yet unanswered questions, many of those surfacing in the Spanish-set ‘Bourne Ultimatum’ as shown on the Alpharooms graphic. The film will be set 12 years after we last saw the Bourne character on screen.
Paul Greengrass is on board as director
Paul Greengrass’s work on the second third films in the franchise was widely acclaimed. Damon even said that he would never return without Greengrass. With the British director back in charge and Damon back in front of the camera, we have two of the main ingredients that made the original trilogy such an enormous financial and critical success. The director also wrote the film with Damon, Christopher Rouse and Robert Ludlum.
Julia Stiles will reprise her role of Nicky
Another familiar face from the franchise is that of Julia Stiles. The actress is reprising her role as Nicolette “Nicky” Parsons, the CIA analyst who also proved a strong ally to the Bourne character in both the Bourne Identity (2002) and the Bourne Supremacy (2004).
The film has a new female lead
While still unconfirmed at the time of writing, the word on the rumour mill is that Swedish actress, Alicia Vikander will star opposite Matt Damon in Bourne 5.The up and coming young actress boasts prominent roles in The Fifth Estate (2013) and Ana Karenina (2012), while but her most high profile role was in the recent Ex Machina.
