UK & Ireland Convention Guide – April/May 2014

As we come up to Easter, we start to hit the peak time for conventions in the UK. Spring and Summer deliver the biggest and best events that are on offer, with faces from the most popular TV shows and movie franchises appearing to meet their fans. After successful ventures to Cardiff and Newcastle, Showmasters will be back home in Milton Keynes for the 21st Collectormania event, while MCM will be venturing into uncharted territory in Dublin. Of course, there’s also Wales Comic Con, the popular event brought to Wrexham by Jaime Milner who we had the chance to chat to recently.

No doubt there’s a number of exciting events coming up over the next few months, and here’s the best of the bunch:

After conquering London, the Midlands, Birmingham, Manchester and beyond, MCM has decided to dive headfirst into Ireland. No doubt there’s a rabid crowd waiting for their unique brand of event, combining the love of TV, movies, comics and more with Anime and Manga, and gaming also. There’s usually something for everyone at an MCM event, and this event will be one to watch. Highlights include Warwick Davis, a number of the Red Dwarf cast, some Merlin knights, and stars from such US hit shows as Eureka and Sleepy Hollow.

Jaime and his team have been working round the clock to put together their best line-up yet and bring an improved experience to their loyal fans. The hard work has paid off with such guests as Allison Mack from Smallville, the three main men from Atlantis, a host of wrestling legends and Wossy himself Jonathan Ross! That’s not even mentioning all the Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, Battlestar Galactica and Torchwood guests amongst others. It’s a varied and ambitious line-up that is bound to please many.

Alongside current stars are a crop of classic guests from franchises such as Doctor Who, Star Wars and even Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. If sports are more your thing, then there are huge names appearing like boxer Chris Eubank and Snooker World No.1 Neil Robertson, as well as a number of footballers. Whether you want to try out the latest games, buy some rare comics, or buy all things Japanese, there are so many options for attendees. You can get autographs and photo shoots with the latest stars of television, or watch them give panels and learn all about their experiences. It’s bound to be a busy and popular weekend, but it’s a real buzz that you’ll find yourself easily hooked on.
