Home » Top 6 Keanu Reeves Movies

Canadian actor Keanu Reeves has been starring in brilliant films since the 80s, and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down! To celebrate the DVD and Blu-Ray release of his newest action-adventure, 47 Ronin (12A), we decided to take a look back at six of the best Keanu movies that launched his career, enjoy!

1. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989)

Reeves first started to get noticed in the industry following the first film of the Bill & Ted franchise, which quickly became a cult classic. Starring as Ted ‘Theodore’ Logan, Reeves teams up with Alex Winter as Bill in this science-fiction, comedy buddy film. Two slackers must travel through time in order to assemble a selection of historical figures for their high school presentation, and as you can imagine hilarity soon ensues!

2. My Own Private Idaho (1991)

Keanu then turned his hand to more serious acting, starring alongside River Phoenix in this indie drama that tells the story of two gay street hustlers who embark on a journey of personal discovery. The film achieved critical acclaim and Reeves proved himself as being more than capable at delivering a heart-rending and serious performance as well as being a time-travelling high school student!

3. Point Break (1991)

As well as establishing himself as the serious type in 1991, this was also the year that Reeves cemented himself as the action hero we all know and love today! In Point Break he plays an FBI agent who goes undercover in a group of surfers as he tries to catch a gang of bank robbers. Point Break also stars Patrick Swayze sporting a rather snazzy hairdo!

4. Speed (1994)

Seemingly realising his comfort zone within the action genre, Keanu took on the role of a hero cop in the surprise critical and commercial success, Speed. The movie tells the intense and gripping story of a police officer who has to keep a city bus above 50mph to prevent a bomb from exploding on board. Sounds simple but the film won two Oscars alongside a host of other awards!

5. The Devil’s Advocate (1997)

Perhaps one of the most fascinating takes on a law-orientated film, The Devil’s Advocate is a clever mystery thriller which stars our leading man as Kevin Lomax, a defense lawyer. After winning his guilty client a ‘not guilty’ verdict in court, Kevin finds himself being recruited by the devil himself, with his guilty conscience set to destroy his life.

6. The Matrix (1999)

And of course, how can this list be complete without a mention of the film that catapulted Keanu Reeves into super-stardom?! The science-fiction, action film won four Oscars and starred Reeves as Neo, a computer hacker who learns from mysterious rebels about the true nature of his reality. One of the must-watch films of recent history and the first in an all-round successful franchise!
