Home » Top 5 Ruthless Couples

Serena, the latest collaboration between dream-team Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper sees the pair move away from their feel-good roles into something much darker. As George and Serena Pemberton, it all gets a bit Macbeth as the pair stop at nothing short of heinous endeavours to achieve their ambitions. It seems as good a time as any to explore film’s most ruthless couples, so feast your eyes on our top 5 below:

1. Bonnie and Clyde

One could argue that these names are some of the most iconic on the list (being real-life too!). Bonnie Elizabeth Parker and Clyde Chestnut Barrow were responsible for stealing from a great number of the high and mighty banks during the Great Depression in the 1930’s. During their time together they managed to claim approximately 14 lives, most of them belonging to police and bank security officers. Their tyranny was put to an end in 1934 as they were gunned down by the authorities. Immortalised in film of course by an iconic Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty.

2. Mr & Mrs Smith

To put it simply, the Smiths are assassins. Their main job is killing people. A lot of people. So these two are already pretty ruthless. But when it comes to them being contracted to kill one another in the comfort of their own home, that’s when things begin to get exciting and chaotic. Let’s just hope that their home insurance can cover all the bullet hole damage!

3. Norman and Mrs Bates

After his father dies, Norman decides on the idea that he should kill his mother, look after her decaying copse and wear her clothes whilst brutally murdering every Tom, Dick and Jane that walks into the Bates hotel. Even though his mother in now a ‘figment of his imagination’ she still counts towards them being a ruthless couple. She acts as a catalyst, becoming something extraordinarily dangerous in the twisted mind of her son. How creepy.

4. The Joker and Harley Quinn

The DC villains have played a monumental role in the Batman franchise over the last few decades. They have over thrown the fictional city of Gotham on many separate occasions, but their evil plans have always been thwarted by the Dark Knight himself. Both the Joker and Harley fall under the category of complete and utter nutters. They have both killed hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent people in very gruesome ways. An example that stands out can be found in Batman Confidential #11 when the joker decides to explode a blimp over Gotham city, which drops shards off poisonous glass killing the victims instantly. Talk about ‘bat shit’ crazy…

5. Skyler and Walter White

Breaking Bad‘s Walter White has done many ‘Bad’ things over the last few years. He has ratted out his partner in crime, Jessie, to the authorities on several occasions; he has lied, cheated and even killed people he was closest to. We could go on and on, but the Ex- Chemistry teacher had a reason to do it. He just wanted the best for his family. But as soon as Skyler found out about his drug production, she became just as ruthless and twisted as her husband. Some would argue she was the moral voice, but as the majority of fans can attest to, the piousness gets hair-tearing, and when she seemingly drops the morals in season 5.

Serena is in cinemas UK-wide now.
