But don’t fret too much because we’re here to help you pick the perfect movie. So whether your date loves romantic comedies or an art-house flick that makes them think, here are our 5 all time top date night movies that never fail.
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
A quirky take on romantic love, this is definitely one to get you thinking. Directed by Michel Gondry and scripted by the brilliant Charlie Kaufman, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind is a romantic, sci-fi thriller, so whatever your date likes, it should tick the boxes! Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet play an estranged couple who have each other erased from their memories and the film tells the disorientating story of them putting the pieces back together. A stunning and fascinating view of love and memory.
The quintessential love story and a stone-cold classic, Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman burn up the screen as former lovers, trapped in the political intrigue of North Africa in the early days of World War II. As well as the memorable lines and scandalous potential (Bergman is married to another man), the film still entrances with its twisty plot and sublime conclusion. Enough to get anyone swooning.
When Harry Met Sally
This might be the perfect film to watch for a first date with someone who’s been a friend for years! When Harry Met Sally is an 80s classic that made stars of Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, and is best remembered for that scene in a restaurant (“I’ll have what she’s having…”). Struggling with the question, “Can men and women ever be just friends?”, it’s a brilliantly funny and witty take on two friends, inching towards becoming lovers.
It may seem like a slightly left field choice, but for its oddball brodding, Donnie Darko is entrancing. Definitely one to set a mood and it will undoubtedly get you and your date chatting about its twists and surprises once the credits roll. And it’s also got a fantastic soundtrack that keeps getting better with age.
Silver Linings Playbook
Something a little more recent now, with two stunning leads (Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence on Oscar winning form), and a tale of redemption. Cooper plays a man with a bipolar disorder who, after being released from a psychiatric hospital, uses dance classes with Lawrence’s Tiffany to try and win back his estranged wife. A comic take on romance with some serious issues in the background, it’s a film that’s sure to leave you and your date with smiles on your faces.
And there’s our run-down of 5 top date night movies. Hopefully that will give you plenty of inspiration to make date night something really special.
