Among the cast and crew walking the red carpet for the European premiere of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (in cinemas 13 December) were Peter Jackson, Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Aidan Turner, Adam Brown, Luke Evans, Philippa Boyens and Ed Sheeran.
It’s the second part of The Hobbit trilogy, which adapts JRR Tolkien’s popular story of hobbit Bilbo Baggins, who leaves his home with 13 dwarves to reclaim their home under the mountains. While the first movie featured the start of their journey, this time around they face the dragon who’s claimed the dwarves’ halls and treasures for himself. Encountering Elves and humans on the way, it’s an action-packed movie that never loses its lightheartedness. Check out our review of the film here.
It’s been 10 years since Berlin hosted the film crew from New Zealand for the premiere of The Return of the King in 2003. While back then The One Ring was the centre-piece of the decoration, this time the enormous head of the dragon Smaug was hidden among an even larger pile of golden coins on the red carpet.
