The Fault In Our Stars Interviews – Ansel Elgort, Nat Wolff & Laura Dern
The cast of The Fault In Our Stars gathered in London for a special screening of the movie at The May Fair Hotel, ahead of its UK cinema release on 19 June.
The movie, based on John Green‘s bestselling novel, tells the story of the relationship between two young cancer patients, Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters (Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort).
Asked what Augustus would have made of people embracing his story, he replied “Hopefully, Augustus wouldn’t give in to the pressure, and would be like ‘this is nice, but I am more grateful for Hazel than all of this attention.'”
He and Shailene went to see the film in disguise in a cinema, “seeing this movie with an audience … the crying is very present … You could really hear the crying.”
Nat Wolff plays Augustus’ best friend Isaac. He’s already signed on to play the lead in the next John Green adaptation, Paper Towns.
On playing Quentin, he said, “Quentin is a really soulful character. I haven’t totally started to break him down and work on him but John creates great characters.”
He said, “Quentin is a kind of like a badass detective, even though he’s in high school. I haven’t done interviews for it yet… I’m just so excited to be part of it.”
Laura Dern plays Hazel’s mother in The Fault In Our Stars. On Shailene she said, “she’s my girlfriend, and that’s what John Green wrote. He wrote two peers with mutual respect and admiration for each other, and it’s a rare mother-daughter relationship to see or read, so I felt really lucky to play that.”
On the forthcoming Jurassic World, she said “I’m very excited. I’m very curious to see it and was so thrilled to be part of a couple of them and also so thrilled to not be chased by dinosaurs in this movie!”
The Fault In Our Stars (12A) is in UK cinemas from Thursday 19 June.
