With his impressive 2011 debut Sound of my Voice, Zal Batmanglij announced himself as a director to watch.
For his sophomore effort, the director has once again teamed up with co-writer and actress Brit Marling in The East, which sees an undercover operative attempt to win the trust of an elusive anarchist collective seeking revenge against major corporations guilty of covering up criminal activity.
Ahead of this week’s UK release on 28 June, Flicks And The City’s Amon Warmann caught up with Zal to chat about the impetus behind his latest film, as well as the casting process and how real life is like a spy thriller. Check out the video below…
