The Drop Interview with Director Michael R Roskam
Brilliant new crime drama The Drop hits UK cinemas this Friday 14 November, and to celebrate its release Flicks And The City sat down with the movie’s director, Oscar-nominated Michael R Roskam (Bullhead).
Starring Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace, The Drop is based on a short story by Dennis Lehane (Gone Baby Gone) and follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Hardy) through a covert scheme of funnelling cash to local gangsters in the underworld of Brooklyn bars.
Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the centre of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighbourhood’s past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living.
Check out our video to see Michael R Roskam tell us why he likens The Drop to Taxi Driver as directed by Frank Capra, what it was like working with Matthias Schoenaerts (Bullhead), Noomi Rapace, Tom Hardy, and puppies, what he thought of Tom Hardy and Matthias’s Brooklyn accents, and why we can look forward to something completely different from his sci-fi series with Michael Mann for HBO!
The Drop is in UK cinemas from 14 November 2014.
