The Curse with Gavin Humphries

Producer Gavin Humphries was fresh out of film school when he set up Quark Films, with fellow NFTS graduate Anna Higgs, in 2006.*

Since then, his films have screened on the BBC and at a host of festivals including Sundance, SXSW, and London; one of his shorts has made the final shortlist for the Oscars; and he’s been dubbed a ‘Star of Tomorrow’ by film industry bible, Screen International.

Oh, and his latest film, The Curse, has just won the Best Short Film Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

I caught up with Gavin at Edinburgh Film Festival’s London launch where he told me all about The Curse, working with director Fyzal Boulifa, and why persistence is so important in the film world. Click the video to watch.

*Anna is now Head of Film4.0 at Film4.
