Short Term 12 was the toast of this year’s South by Southwest festival, winning both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award.
Written and directed by Destin Cretton, the film follows Grace, a 20-something supervisor at a foster-care facility, her colleagues and the at-risk teens in their charge as they deal with their difficult pasts and the arrival of a gifted but troubled teenage girl.
A talented filmmaker, Destin has succeeded in making a film that is not only moving, but also complex, dark, heartwarming and funny. In fact, Short Term 12 is one of my favourite films of 2013.
With Short Term 12 in UK cinemas on 1st November, Flicks And The City sat down with Destin to find out more about his second feature film.
