Saving Mr Banks Press Conference with Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson & Colin Farrell
The closing night film at this year’s London Film Festival, Saving Mr Banks is the extraordinary untold story of how one of the most beloved tales of all time, Mary Poppins, was bought to the big screen.
Out in UK cinemas on 29 November, the film stars Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson and Colin Farrell and follows what happened after Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favourite book, PL Travers’ Mary Poppins.
Disney didn’t realise his promise to his children would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, he came up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who had absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stopped selling and money grew short, Travers reluctantly agreed to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney’s plans for the adaptation.
This week, the film’s stars, director, producer and writer were in London for a special press conference.
Check out the video to see what Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, Colin Farrell, director John Lee Hancock, writer Kelly Marcel, and producer Alison Owen had to say about Saving Mr Banks.
