So, it’s 26 December, aka Boxing Day, and you’ve had your fill of turkey, roast potatoes, and Christmas pud already.
What you need now is a really great film. And fortunately, you’ll find it at your local cinema in the form of Safety Not Guaranteed.
Director Colin Trevorrow and screenwriter Derek Connolly have crafted a clever sci-fi-tinged comedy from a real classified ad that turned into an internet meme in the mid-noughties.
Mark Duplass (Cyrus) stars as a supermarket worker who believes he’s cracked the time-travel conundrum, while Jake Johnson (New Girl) and Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) play a snarky journo and his intern out to uncover Duplass’ crazy scheme.
I caught up with director Colin Trevorrow recently to chat about memes, creepy locations, Mark Duplass getting into character, broken-down Datsuns, Disney’s The Flight of the Navigator, Star Wars movie sequels, and whether he’d throw his hat in the ring to direct Star Wars Episode 8 or 9. Check out the video to see what Colin had to say:
Safety Not Guaranteed is out in UK cinemas on 26 December.
