News broke last week that main stars David Tennant, Olivia Colman and Arthur Darvill will be returning for Broadchurch season 2, but De Jersey confirmed to Flicks And The City that he too will be returning, as SOCO Brian Young.

Talking about the success of Broadchurch, De Jersey described it as “a piece of event television” which he was very proud to be a part of. He put the success down to the sense of community the show created.

On the second season, he said “the writers would be wise to explore it in a different way … and shouldn’t try to recreate” the first season.

Broadchurch is being remade for US audiences as Gracepoint, with David Tennant keeping his role. De Jersey said he’d recently caught up with Tennant in Vancouver where he was filming Gracepoint, but said he’d wait to film the second season of Broadchurch before watching its American version.

De Jersey also appeared with Tennant in Day of the Doctor, as part of the Doctor Who 50th anniversary celebration, which he described as ‘too exciting’ and a ‘great honour’; “to be involved in the 50th (anniversary) is off the scale.”

He’s also recently met with Peter Capaldi, who was ‘so excited’ to step into the TARDIS, “I’m immensely looking forward to Peter. It’s a great idea to go with someone of Peter’s stature and age. He is timeless.”

“After the great work that Matt Smith did, you need to shake it about a bit.”

Broadchurch season 2 is expected to return later this year, though no date has been announced as yet.

Forever getting annoyed at people in the audience at cinemas.
