London Film and Comic Con Winter 2014 Preview

LFCC1When you look outside and the days are dark and full of constant rain, it feels like the height of summer with Stan Lee and thousands of fans gathering in London was years ago. Surprisingly, it was only a few months ago, and many people are probably still recovering from it – mentally and financially! The good news is that if you’re feeling brave and up for a return trip to Earls Court, Showmasters will be putting on their Winter London Film and Comic Con event this weekend on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October.

It’s the perfect opportunity to cheer yourself up faced with the impending winter blues, and brings with it the opportunity to meet some of your favourite names from television, film and comics, as well as browse the merchandise stalls. Is it ever too early to start your Christmas shopping? Not according to supermarkets anyway, so you might find some great geeky items here for your loved ones… or just for yourself!

The ever-popular Carrie Fisher will once again be gracing us with her presence as interest in Star Wars is reaching a fever pitch, with the highly anticipated new trilogy coming up. She will be joined by Darth Vader himself Dave Prowse, and Jeremy Bulloch who played bounty hunter Boba Fett. There will also be a Stormtrooper reunion and a number of other names from what remains one of the most popular movie franchises of all time. This is the perfect time to meet them before things get too crazy in the next few years!

A number of other big movies will be represented in London – the Karate Kid Ralph Macchio will be appearing alongside another man with a brave heart, Billy Boyd aka Pippin from Lord Of The Rings. Other films covered include Jurassic Park, Austin Powers, Guardians of the Galaxy and even Ferris Bueller’s Day Off! This event is a real treat for classic movie fans and modern pieces also, and no doubt all the guests have fantastic tales to share of life on set.LFCC2

Of course, no convention would be complete without a few names from the British institution Doctor Who, another franchise that has kept conventions alive for decades – way before they were considered ‘cool’ by the mainstream! The Classic era is covered by Lalla Ward (Romana), Peter Purves (Steven) and John Leeson (K9), as well as Colin Baker (the Sixth Doctor) and a number of other villains and companions. If the Modern era is more your thing, then chat to Ellis George (Courtney) about the current series, or Peter Ferdinando who played the Half-Face Man in the series opener ‘Deep Breath.’

Guests from other popular shows include Michael Trucco and Katee Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica, Ryan Robbins from Falling Skies, MC Gainey from Lost and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson and Miltos Yerolemou from Game Of Thrones. Arrow fans can meet Colin Salmon, while fans of Grimm and Criminal Minds will want to catch up with C Thomas Howell. Even wrestling fans have a great selection including former world champion Alberto Del Rio, ex tag champs Too Cool and WCW legend Buff Bagwell. There really is something for everyone!

LFCC3It’s impossible to cover everything. Power Rangers, Red Dwarf, Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Trek all have guests attending also, so this could easily be another expensive one for fans this time round. You can even have your photo taken with a Gollum prop or on Indiana Jones’ bike! The real decision is picking how to fit everything into a whole weekend. With autographs, photos and talks happening throughout the two days, there are bound to be a few things missed.

With video games, cosplay, comic artists, manga and anime all involved, as well as a return for YALC and book authors, LFCC Winter looks to be another interesting and enjoyable convention to attend. No doubt it’ll be a much calmer affair than summer with Stan Lee, so make the most of the breathing space and extra time with the guests! We hope to see many of you there, so come and say hi if you see us! Keep an eye out for coverage of the event as we question the guests and get all the gossip.

London Film And Comic Con Winter takes place Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October at Earls Court 2. For more information, visit the website here.
