Home » The Hobbit & X-Men: Days of Future Past with Ian McKellen

There was more than a touch of magic in the air last night at London’s Genesis Cinema as audiences embarked on a journey to Middle Earth in the company of Gandalf.

Ian McKellen, who first played the wizard in Peter Jackson’s big-screen version of The Lord of the Rings, took part in a special Q&A and screening of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in aid of Step Forward, a local charity which helps young people in London’s East End.

McKellen, who’s a patron of Step Forward, regaled cinema-goers with tales of wizardry and even brought along Gandalf’s hat and staff!

And to complement the magical spirit of the evening, there were Hobbit-inspired cocktails created and served by mixologist Ali and Elekia in the very stylish new bar at the Genesis.

After sampling the Rum Riddler (purely for research purposes), I caught up with Ian McKellen to talk about his support for Step Forward and upcoming performances on both the big and small screen.

Check out the video below to hear about Ian McKellen’s support for the Step Forward charity:

And in the next video Ian McKellen talks about new adventures in Middle Earth with The Hobbit trilogy, returning to the world of X-Men with X-Men: Days of Future Past, and being part of the Doctor Who Christmas Day special on the eve of the show’s 50th anniversary:
