Home » Mark Addy on the Downfall & Death of King Robert Baratheon

During his time as ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, Robert Baratheon never tried to hide the fact he was less interested in affairs of state than he was in affairs of the heart, or should that be loins?

Of course, everyone’s favourite good-time King soon found that leaving his kingdom in the hands of less-than-loyal advisers while he partied on, was perhaps not the best way to stay at the top in Westeros.

One hunting trip, too much wine, and an unfortunate encounter with a wild boar later, and Robert Baratheon was no more.

While his wife Cersei Lannister may not miss him, Game of Thrones viewers certainly do. So when Flicks And The City visited Wales Comic Con this year, we grabbed the chance for a chat with the man behind the King: Mark Addy.

Check out the video to see Mark chat about working with Lena Headey (Cersei), Jack Gleeson (Joffrey), and Sean Bean (Ned Stark), what qualities you need to survive in Game of Thrones, who he thinks will win the Game of Thrones, what he thought of Robert’s death by boar, why Viserys Targaryen’s crown of gold scene is one the best on-screen deaths, how George RR Martin’s books helped him understand Robert’s backstory, and if he could play anyone in GoT who it would be:
