Home » Richard Dormer on Beric Dondarrion’s Flaming Sword & Fountains of Blood

Beric Dondarrion, leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners, is GoT’s very own cat with nine lives – ok, six, so far. Season 3 saw Beric brandish a flaming sword against a fire-phobic Sandor Clegane. And while The Hound’s fear of flames gave Beric a temporary advantage, game, set and match eventually went to the scar-faced one. But as viewers soon discovered, there’s no need to worry about the odd sword through your torso when you believe in the Lord of Light. And so Beric was brought back to life by the red priest Thoros.

Flicks And The City caught up with Richard Dormer, who plays Beric, at London Film And Comic Con.

Check out our video to see Richard tell us about how he shot the flaming sword scene, what it was like battling The Hound (Rory McCann), why Beric has put his faith in Melisandrefilming his on-screen death and re-animation, how he’d like Beric to fight a dragon, what he thinks the Brotherhood Without Banners will get up to in season 4, why luck is so important in GoT, who he thinks will be the last man standing, why his favourite character is Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), surviving in Beric’s world, working with Paul Kay as Thoros and Rory McCann as The Hound, overheating in the flaming sword fight, Beric’s samurai-like calm, losing weight filming in 50-degree heat in full armour, and his message to fans of the show.
