Home » Chinese Puzzle Interview with director Cédric Klapisch

Flicks And The City caught up with French director Cédric Kaplisch to talk about Chinese Puzzle, his third film that looks at the life of Xavier Rousseau (Romain Duris) and his newly single attitude as he moves to New York to be closer to his kids.

Xavier’s (Romain Duris) life is turned upside down when his wife Wendy (Kelly Reilly) announces she’s moving to New York and taking the kids. A few months later, he’s on a trans-Atlantic flight as well. From fathering a child to a lesbian couple, to marrying a Chinese-American to get papers, to reigniting a flame with his first love who comes for a visit, Xavier and his world really do seem like a Chinese Puzzle.

Check out our video to see Cédric reveal what made him come back to these characters almost 10 years later, why Romain Duris is perfectly cast as the complicated Xavier, why he decided to film in New York, and his love of the characters. And we also ask him if this is the end of the line for Xavier’s story.

Chinese Puzzle is out in UK cinemas on 20 June 2014.
