Imagine a world where obsessed fans paid to be infected with germs from their idols at special clinics, or where chomping on a steak grown from celebrity cells brought you that bit closer to your favourite star.
That’s the world you’ll find in Antiviral, Brandon Cronenberg’s first feature film in the writer-director’s seat.
Starring Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class) and Sarah Gadon (Cosmopolis), Antiviral follows what happens when a clinic employee smuggles a young celebrity’s germs out of his workplace in his own body and tries to sell them on the black market. Prepare to be body-shocked!
Check out the video to see Brandon chat about celebrity obsessions, how his sister was once photoshopped into a picture with Robert Pattinson, the style of Antiviral, working with Caleb Landry Jones, mass outpourings of grief for celebrities, and how the technology behind celebrity cell steaks already exists:
Antiviral is released at select cinemas on 1 February and on DVD and digital download from 11 February.
