Alan Partridge has been a sports reporter, chat show host, radio DJ, and author. He’s even gone digital. But now everyone’s favourite fictional presenter is conquering the big screen in the hilariously funny movie Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, out in cinemas on 7 August.

But what does Steve Coogan’s best-loved creation get up to this time? Well, think Die Hard meets Terry Wogan! In other words, when Alan’s radio station, North Norfolk Digital, is taken over by a new media conglomerate, it sets in motion a chain of events that leads to Alan working with the police to defuse a potentially violent siege started by a disgruntled late-night DJ. Flicks And The City’s Jan Gilbert caught up with the film’s director Declan Lowney to get the lowdown on working with actor Steve Coogan, on-set improv, the movie’s soundtrack, Declan’s choice of car tunes, and how he’d describe Alpha Papa:
