Home » 5 Reasons To Get Excited For Tomorrowland

Shrouded in mystery Tomorrowland is one of Disney’s upcoming films to look forward to this summer. Directed by Brad Bird who is best known for his work on The Incredibles, The Iron Giant and Ratatouille; this live-action sci-fi film will more than likely be a break out hit when it’s released on 22 May. Taking its title from the Disneyland attraction of the same name, Tomorrowland is written by both Bird and Damon Lindelof who is best known for working on Lost and more recently The Leftovers.

The story as we know it so far is that a teenage girl and former boy-genius inventor embark on a mission to unearth the secrets of a place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory. Save the synopsis, poster and short trailers, little has been revealed, however here are five reasons to get excited for Tomorrowland!

1. The Mystery & Wonder

The movie is shrouded in mystery which helps to create a sense of anticipation and excitement. The film’s title was initially dubbed 1952 and the director and writer tweeted pictures of a cryptic briefcase named “1952” containing old pictures of Walt Disney. The working title later changed to … Tomorrowlandm and the name alone fills me with a sense of curiosity as to what could be waiting on-screen. From the teasers so far there is a sense of nostalgia in Tomorrowland, much like that found in the film The Rocketeer, coincidentally also a Disney production.

2. The Cast

britt-robertson-tomorrowlandWith George Clooney and Britt Robertson as the leads why wouldn’t I be excited?! Like everyone else I have a special place in my heart for Clooney and Britt Robertson is a rising star who I’ve liked since her role in the little known show Life Unexpected. As she did in that show I expect her to bounce off Clooney as he likely takes on a father figure role. Tomorrowland also stars Hugh Laurie, Keegan-Michael Key and Judy Greer, and the varied cast will undoubtedly make for an interesting watch.

Britt Robertson is also one of Flicks And The City’s top 10 rising stars of 2015. Check out more reasons why you should watch her here.

3. The Marketing

So far we’ve just had a teaser trailer and then a Super Bowl TV spot but I’ll be very excited to see how people react to a full theatrical trailer. My guess would be that it’s attached to a big film coming out prior to Tomorrowland such as Avengers: Age of Ultron.

4. The Director

With Brad Bird as director I’m confident he can make something that will really draw us in to the world of Tomorrowland, just as he’s done with his previous films. I expect Brad Bird to deliver a wonderful sense of escapism and fascination with this movie.

5. The Story

From the trailer we can see that the world the two leads look to escape from is starting to fall apart. Looting, riots and bad things are happening all over the world but the world that they escape to is full of wonder, joy and hope. The journey of how they reach it, what they do there and if they go back is one I’m looking forward to seeing.

To sum up Tomorrowland is set to be more than just an attraction at Disneyland this summer and I believe it will become a cherished film for all who come to watch it. I can’t wait for this summer!

Tomorrowland is released in cinemas on 22 May 2015.
